Metallic Epoxy Flooring
High-gloss metallic coatings with marble-like depth and 3D pigment effects.
Metallic epoxy flooring is a decorative system that uses metallic pigments suspended in clear epoxy resin to create a three-dimensional, marbled appearance. No two installations look the same. Done well, it produces a showroom or gallery-quality floor at a fraction of the cost of polished stone, terrazzo, or large-format porcelain.
What metallic epoxy flooring actually is
A metallic epoxy installation layers a pigmented base coat, then a metallic-loaded clear or pigmented mid coat, then one or two protective topcoats. The installer manipulates the metallic mid coat with rollers, brushes, or solvents to create depth, swirls, lensing, and color movement before the resin sets. The final topcoat locks the design and provides scratch resistance. Total system thickness is usually 40 to 80 mils.
Best use cases
- Showrooms, retail spaces, lobbies, and reception areas where the floor is part of the brand
- Home theaters, bars, and entertainment rooms with statement design needs
- Garages where the owner wants the floor to feel premium, not utilitarian
- Commercial spaces that need a sealed, durable floor that doubles as decor
- Studios and galleries that want a seamless, reflective surface
Typical cost
$6 to $12 per square foot installed
Single-color metallic systems sit at the lower end. Multi-color and high-detail designs cost more because of additional installer labor and the metallic pigment cost. Larger contiguous spaces get a per-square-foot discount because the design technique scales.
Installation timeline
Three to four days from grind to final topcoat for most metallic installations. Each layer needs full cure before the next is applied. Plan for a week of no traffic before the floor returns to service.
Questions to ask before hiring
- Can I see in-person samples or addresses of completed projects? Photos do not show the real lensing effect.
- Do you do a customer design review with sample boards before installation?
- What topcoat do you use, and what is its scratch and chemical resistance rating?
- How is the floor maintained day to day?
- How are scratches and minor damage repaired in the future?
